The California LGBT Tobacco Education Partnership works to counteract the negative impact tobacco use has had on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community through education and advocacy efforts. The Partnership is funded by the California Department of Health Services/Tobacco Control Section (CDHS/TCS). LFA is working with the Partnership to assess their effectiveness in meeting five outcome objectives outlined by CDHS/TCS. These five outcomes are: providing LGBT-specific technical assistance and training services to TCS-funded projects; assisting the California Smokers’ Helpline in its goal to provide accessible and culturally relevant services to callers regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity; working with California’s Legislative Caucus members to resist tobacco industry donations; advocating for smoke-free policies at LGBT Pride events in order to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and to challenge community norms regarding tobacco use; and providing support to TCS and its affiliated workgroups and agencies. LFA is collaborating with the Partnership’s staff to revise their scope of work, create outcome and process evaluation plans, develop instruments and tracking systems for assessing each objective, and analyze and report on the information gathered.
