The California Nurses Foundation (CNF) Mentor Demonstration Project pairs 160 nurses with 40 nurse mentors at four hospitals over two years. The goal of the project is to reduce nurse turnover, especially among ethnically diverse and male nurses. The ultimate goal is to replicate the program in California and across the nation. The evaluation compares outcomes among these nurse mentees and mentors with 160 comparison nurses at four non-participating hospitals. The study includes quantitative and qualitative data gathered on the nurses, and program staff in order to determine the program’s effectiveness in increasing length of stay and enhancing job satisfaction. In addition, LFA will conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the program.
